Anniversary of the day in 1907 when NZ was granted Dominion Status within the British Empire instead of Crown Colony status, allowing NZ to become virtually independent & self-governing.  Only celebrated as a Public holiday in South Canterbury nowadays. L  26th Sept   Daylight Saving Time starts at 2.00 am. Put your clocks forward ONE hour.
